Frequently Asked Questions

On which devices does AbilityMic run?

AbilityMic is available now on the App Store for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro (Universal Purchase), on Windows via the Microsoft Store, and on Linux via the Snap Store. Google Play testing is available on Android — join the testing program or email us to request tester access.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Core AAC — symbols, boards, and speech output — works offline on your device. Optional AI sentence support may need an internet connection when you use it.

How do I import or export my boards?

You can create, import, and export communication boards using open, documented formats. Boards can be moved between devices and backed up locally.

Can I create custom symbols?

Yes. AbilityMic offers three ways to get symbols: (1) a library of offline symbols included in the app, (2) AI-generated symbols — describe what you need and get a custom image, and (3) web image search via Unsplash with safe-search filtering. You can also import your own symbol packs as ZIP files.

What is Fitzgerald Key color coding?

The Modified Fitzgerald Key is a color-coding system used in AAC communication to categorize words by type (e.g. yellow for nouns, green for verbs, blue for adjectives). AbilityMic lets you assign these categories in the board editor and automatically suggests the standard color.

Can I print boards for physical use?

Yes. The PDF export includes symbol images in cells, dashed cut lines for lamination, multi-page layout for large boards, and a color legend. It is optimized for A4/Letter paper in landscape orientation.

Is my data private?

Yes. Data is stored on your device. We do not use advertising or tracking. See our Privacy Policy.
