For families and communication partners
Start with everyday conversations
Pick the situations where you want communication to be easier: talking at the table, going out together, planning the day, meeting friends or sharing what happened.
- Get to know how the person communicates. Pay attention to gestures, looks, sounds, words and the symbols they use.
- Prepare an accessible tool. Choose the device, target size, access method and vocabulary with the help of an AAC professional.
- Model communication. Point to symbols while you speak yourself, and give time for an answer.
- Grow the conversation together. Make room for the person’s interests, opinions, refusals and initiative.
Support when choosing AI
Together with an AAC professional, decide how much suggestion support to use and how suggestions will be checked. Comparing a suggestion with the chosen symbols and being able to reject it help keep control over the message.
